O’Neil was born Aug. 12, 1950, in Brooklyn, to Ruth and Joseph Curtis. The family moved to White Plains in 1959, where she attended St. Bernard’s School and Maria Regina High School. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in English at the University of Massachusetts.
O’Neil was a high school English teacher for 26 years in Massachusetts and New York, most recently at Harrison High School.
O’Neil is survived by husband, John “Jack” O’Neil; children John (Katie) O’Neil, Kelly O’Neil and Ryan O’Neil; sisters, Kathleen O’Connor, Carolyn Moriarty, Joanne Lombardi, Nancy Patota, Marie Curtis, Amy Curtis-McIntyre, and Barbara Curtis; and 15 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents.
Calling hours are Friday, July 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, White Plains. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
