The alligator was two feet long and 90 pounds, according to the New York Daily News. Police suspected that the animal was looking for water by the Harlem Bay and bystanders were more intrigued than scared while 34 precinct police contained the animal and waited for emergency services, the Daily News reports.

The reptile was brought to animal care and control.
