The national executive board of the Boy Scouts accepted the change, with 79 percent of those present in the meeting via phone voting in favor, according to the report.
The new policy also prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation in Boy Scout offices and paid jobs, but allows church-sponsored units to choose leaders who agree with their principles, which could exclude homosexual men, according to the New York Times.
