White Plains Native Margaret Rasche Dies at 74

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Margaret "Margi" Elizabeth Rasche, a White Plains native, died March 14 at her home in Wells, Maine, after a nine-month struggle with cancer. She was 74.

She was born July 6, 1937, in White Plains to Charles and Else Hillers, emigrants from Germany. Rasche attended grade school and high school in White Plains and received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Boston University School of Nursing in 1959.

On Aug. 30, 1958, she married Robert W. Rasche in White Plains. They moved to Boston briefly, before relocating to Salem, Mass. In 1962, Rasche and her husband spent nine month in Germany, where she was first able to meet her family there.

They returned to the U.S. in 1962, moving to Burlington, Maine, and then North Reading, Maine. Rasche was a Girl Scouts leader, Cub Scout den mother and school nurse for North Reading schools for 13 years, becoming head nurse toward the end of her tenure.

Rasche and her husband moved to Tucson, Ariz., and then back to Maine at a custom-built home in Wells. A woman of strong faith, she was active in the Congregational Church of Wells, where she served on many boards and sang in the choir.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; her sons, Robert (Jan) of Bellingham, Mass., and Stephen (Tori) of York, Maine; her daughters, Robin (Kevin) Barnard of Wells and Kathryn (Eric) Andrew of Wells; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. March 31 at the Congregational Church of Wells. Memorial contributions may be made to the Congregational Church of Wells, Steeple Fund, P.O. Box 759, Wells, ME 04090. Funeral arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel in Kennebunk, Maine.
