WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Christi Chenarides, formerly of White Plains, died Nov. 12. at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He was 89.
Chenarides was a real estate contracts administrator for IBM for over 35 years, working at the White Plains, Poughkeepsie and Kingston, N.Y. locations.
He was born on Jan. 29, 1922 in Bronx, N.Y. to the late John and Despina Chenarides. During World War II, he served in the US Army Air Corps as C-47 Crew Chief and flew supplies from India to China during The Hump Operation.
On Oct. 19, 1947, Chenarides married Mary Tsontarides at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in New York City. She survives him at home.
Chenarides retired from IBM in 1988. A member of Kisimis Greek Orthodox Church in Poughkeepsie, he was also associated with Ahepa, a Greek civic organization aimed at helping those in need. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Dean Chenarides with his wife Vicki of Fishkill and John Chenarides with his wife Debra of Pittsburgh, Penn., his brothers George (Linda) Chenarides, Harry (Arline) Chenarides and Nick (Beverly) Chenarides, his sister Martha (Gus) Spyridon and four grandchildren. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church with Reverend Gregory S. Patsis officiating. Interment will follow at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery in Fishkill, N.Y. Funeral arrangements by McHoul Funeral Home.
