Ex-White Plains Bridal Consultant, Kaufmann Dies

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Virginia Tucker Kaufmann, formerly of White Plains, died Feb. 24, surrounded by family. She was 97.

Kaufmann was a bridal consultant at LA Schulman's in White Plains for 17 years before retiring as a real estate agent with Price and Ripley Realty in Rye. 

She was born in New York City on Jan. 5, 1915 to the late William D. and Leonore Tucker. Raised in White Plains, Kaufmann graduated from Maplehurst Convent of the Sacred Heart in 1932 and then from the College of New Rochelle in 1936. She married Leo Kaufmann of White Plains on Jan. 12, 1941 in Port of Spain, Trinidad. They started their family in Providence, R.I. before settling in White Plains to raise their five children.

Kaufmann was also a former resident of Elmsford before moving to Eastham, Mass. and most recently Shrewsbury, Mass. She was a member of St. Bernard's Parish in White Plains and then Mt. Carmel in Elmsford. A life master bridge player and avid golfer, she belonged to the Westchester Fairfield Association, Knollwood Country Club in Elmsford and Captain's Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. 

Surviving are her sons Peter J. (Cindy) Kaufmann of New Canaan, Conn. and Jamie (Betty) Kaufmann of Lake Forest, Ill., her daughters Norie (Brian) Leonard of East Orleans, Mass., Jinx (John) Clancy of Marlborough, Mass. and Josie Kaufmann of Eastham, her sister Norie Mahowald of St. Cloud, Minn., 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother William D. Tucker and her sister Helaine Harrison. 

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Nickerson Funeral Home in Orleans, Mass. The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans, followed by burial at Orleans Cemetery.
