WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Raymond Nelson Davis of White Plains died March 13 surrounded by family. He was 78.
A former Naval officer and longtime White Plains resident, Davis worked in advertising and graphic design.
The son of George E. Davis and Elise Lanning Davis Reesh, he was born March 20, 1933 in Asheville, N.C. Davis graduated from White Plains High School and received a bachelor's of fine arts from Pratt Institute.
He attended Columbia University, studying advertising, film and animation and later received a master's degree of fine arts in graphic design from Syracuse University School of Visual and Performing Arts.
From 1956 to 1962, he served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the U.S. Naval Officers' School in Pensacola, Fla. and The Naval Intelligence and Counter Intelligence School in Washington, D.C. While in service, Davis married Ruth L. Perin of White Plains on April 20, 1957.
Among his various tours of duty, Davis was stationed in Port Lyautey, Morocco for two years and was honorably discharged as lieutenant commander. Upon his return from active duty, he worked in advertising in New York City before going into business for himself in graphic design.
Davis is survived by his wife Ruth, his sons Robert (Gail) Davis and William (Carolyn) Davis, his daughters Jennifer (Don) Ahrenberg and Pamela (Ed) Iodice and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on March 31 at 1 p.m. at the White Plains Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements are under Ballard-Durand Funeral Home.
