The contest took place just before the Westchester Knicks’ own game, and several players, including newly acquired former BYU star Jimmer Fredette, could be seen watching the tail end of the Eagles’ victory from the stage area.

Eastchester coach Fred DiCarlo said his teams always relish the chance to play at what could be described as the mecca of Westchester hoops.

“You’re playing on the court and kind of lose where you are,” said DiCarlo. “But you look around, and it’s a great experience for the kids, so I’m happy they got it.”

Though the teams traded leads throughout the first half, the Eagles pulled away in the third quarter with point guard Benny DiMirco leading the way. DiMarco, who was named the game’s MVP, echoed the “awesome” experience playing at the County Center.

“It’s a different feel than a normal home game,” DiMarco said. “You really want to put on a show to show everybody that you can play with anybody.”

Saying his team “hustled real hard,” DiCarlo will look to channel the Eagles’ energy from this game to get back to the County Center for postseason play.

Eastchester will first be back in the building on Sunday to take on Archbishop Stepinac High School in the Slam Dunk Tournament. The Eagles had last played in the County Center when they fell to Poughkeepsie High School in the 2013 sectional finals.
