Tuition, room and board will see a near 4 percent increase, with the former being upped to $55,000 a year and the latter up to $16,600. Books and personal expenses are expected to cost an estimated $3,750 for the average student.

This year, tuition cost $53,430; room and board cost an estimated $16,000. The estimated cost of books and expenses will remain the same. The university said that more than half of their undergraduate students receive financial aid, to the tune of more than $50,000 on average.

Despite the increased cost, a record number of prospective students reportedly applied to Yale for the fourth year in a row. In total, 36,829 high school students sought spots in a class of approximately 1,570 that will be accepted.

In a statement, Yale’s director of undergraduate financial aid, Scott Wallace-Juedes, said that, “although the cost of a Yale education changes each year, students receiving financial aid can rest assured that their Yale financial aid award will continue to meet their full demonstrated financial need.”
