The bridge's visual quality panel has developed two options for the towers on the bridge's main spans: the original flat, rectangular, squared-off towers rising 409 feet above the water or chamfered, angeled, more slender towers that rise 419 feet above the water.
The rectangular towers would not require a cost increase, but the angled towers would raise the cost slightly, officials said.
Residents can voice their opinions on the designs at the bridge's website through Tuesday. A final determination will be made by the New York State Thruway Authority.
“From the beginning, a primary goal of this project has been to provide the Hudson Valley with an aesthetically pleasing bridge they can be proud of,” Chairman Brian Conybeare said in a statement. “It’s our job to work with the public to ensure we meet this goal. Needless to say, we are looking forward to hearing residents’ thoughts on these two great designs.”
