WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Tarrytown police nabbed two men for burglary and larceny after they would go door to door asking if there were any houses for rent.
The first incident took place on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when Tarrytown police responded to a residence on Wilson Park Drive for a report of a larceny of property that had occurred outside the home, said Lt. Greg Budnar.
Shortly after conducting an investigation into the larceny the department responded to a residence on Castle Heights Avenue for a report of a past burglary. Detectives processed the scene and recovered evidence in relation to the burglary, Budnar said.
Through a Reverse-911 message, investigators requested the public’s help in identifying any suspicious activity in the area on Oct. 10 or within the past few days. During the message, police asked residents to report any information related to suspicious people knocking on residents doors and inquiring if there were any homes for rent in the area, he said.
On Thursday, Oct. 12, a homeowner in the area received a knock on her door by a man who began to ask about homes for rent in the area. Having received the R-911 message the homeowner became immediately suspicious and called the Tarrytown Police Department, Budnar said.
When police responded to the area patrol officers were able to track down the man's vehicle on South Broadway and stopped the car.
During the stop, two men in the vehicle, Franco Saladrigas-Garcia, 24, of North Bergen, N.J., and Genaro Valencia, 26, of Sleepy Hollow, were found with stolen property, Budnar said.
"Tarrytown Detectives recovered proceeds from the Castle Heights burglary, the Wilson Park larceny, and an amount of other stolen property," Budnar said.
Both were charged with burglary and criminal possession of stolen property. They are being held at the Westchester County Jail.
Anyone who may have possible information in regards to the defendants or similar suspicious activity is asked to contact the Tarrytown Police Detective Division at (914) 631-1514.
