Stony Brook resident Anthony Amato, 38, was stopped by a Suffolk County Sheriff’s deputy shortly before 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 when he was spotted drifting between lanes on the highway in Islip.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Amato was observed failing to maintain the lane he was driving in by drifting from the center lane into the right lane four times without using the proper signal.

When he was stopped, Amato allegedly demonstrated clues while performing standardized field sobriety tests that he was intoxicated.

Amato was taken into custody and transported to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office in Riverhead, where a breathalyzer test found he had a blood alcohol content of .23 percent.
