Greenwich Police were patrolling the area of Greenwich Avenue on Friday, April 26 around 9 p.m. Around this time, police say an anonymous subject allegedly submitted a report of a red pickup truck traveling the wrong way on Greenwich Avenue.

The anonymous subject called again to report that the vehicle had been parked on Greenwich Avenue in the area of St. Mary’s Parish, according to police.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s driver, identified as 35-year-old Ismael Mendoza of Port Chester, New York, allegedly appeared to be driving under the influence. Police say Mendoza had glossy, red eyes and that there was an alcoholic odor coming from the vehicle.

Mendoza was then asked to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which police say he did not pass.

Police also allegedly discovered a half-full beer can in the center console of the vehicle.

Mendoza allegedly admitted to drinking while driving the vehicle, and police say that a check with the DMV showed that Mendoza did not possess a valid driver’s license.

Mendoza was arrested and charged with:

  • Operating under the influence
  • Operating a motor vehicle without a license
  • Wrong way down a one-way street
  • Drinking while driving

Mendoza was released after posting $250 bond. He is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Friday, May 10.
