Born in North Tarrytown on Oct. 30, 1926, he was the son of Joseph and Mary (Martone) Raniolo. He graduated from North Tarrytown High School.
At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific region, where he participated in the Invasion of Okinawa.
He received multiple honors for his military service, including the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the American Defense Medal, among others. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
After the war, he graduated with top honors from the Rhodes Prep School in New York City and attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In 1949, he married Rose Iacono, at St. Teresa's Church in North Tarrytown. He was a bricklayer and a 69-year member of the Bricklayers, Masons and Allied Craftsmen, Local No. 27, Tarrytown.
He is survived by his wife; his sons, Dr. Robert John Raniolo (Debra J. Zambrano), Judge Gary John Raniolo (Georgeann Adams), and David John Raniolo (Catherine Roberts); grandchildren Gary John, Danielle, Megan, Ashley, Robert John and Heather Rose Raniolo; and sister Lillian Allevi of California.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Jean Raniolo, and sister Mary Jane Auge.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Coffey Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Church in Sleepy Hollow, with interment and military honors to follow in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
