Tarrytown to Discuss Tappan Zee Noise Barriers

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Tarrytown and South Nyack residents who will be most affected by the construction of a new Tappan Zee Bridge are being invited to comment and discuss proposed noise barriers this week.

New York State Thruway Authority spokesperson Andrew O'Rourke said members of targeted households in both villages had been invited to meetings this week to ask questions and vote on proposed noise barriers.

A Westchester County meeting will take place on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown.

Construction crews are completing early “smart work,” including pile driving, so that design-build consortiums can put together final bids for the $5.2 billion project. The proposed twin-span bridge would sit just north of the existing structure.

O'Rourke said the meeting was public, but mostly invite-only, because the Thruway Authority wants to hear from those who live closest to the construction project, such as the Quay Condominiums. He noted that state officials have already met privately with homeowners closest to the bridge on issues and concerns.

About 160 people were invited to the meeting.

O'Rourke said there would be a 10-minute presentation and then a question-and-answer session before residents vote on proposed barriers.
