LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- Larchmont Librarian Frank Connelly, an Irvington resident, continued his annual tradition of dressing in a frock coat and top hat to read the Charles Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol" on Monday, Dec. 9.

Connelly's performance drew a record crowd this year that required his reading to be moved from the front room of the Larchmont Library into one of the facility's larger spaces.

The librarian read an abridged version of the tale that Dickens developed so that it could be read publicly in about 90 minutes. It is a tradition that Dickens himself carried out over 100 times before his death in 1870.

Connelly has made it his mission to perform the reading in a fashion that is as true to its writer and as historically accurate to the public readings that were given by Dickens’ himself.
