TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- The builder for the new Tappan Zee Bridge has completed the dredging process a month ahead of schedule, reported lohud.com.

The dredging removed 188,000 cubic yards of sand making a channel in the Hudson River to allow for the old bridge to come down and the new bridge to go up. The deadline for the dredging was Oct. 31 to avoid the spawning and migration of the endangered Atlantic and shortnose sturgeon, according to lohud.com.
