SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- The light is back on at the historic Sleepy Hollow lighthouse.

On Wednesday, Edge-on-Hudson, along with County Executive Robert Astorino and Sleepy Hollow mayor Ken Wray dedicated the installation of an exacting replica of the original fourth-order Fresnel Lens and rotating light that once operated atop the lighthouse.

The lighthouse was constructed in 1883 and decommissioned in 1961. It sits adjacent to the former General Motors plant, which is being redeveloped as mixed use development. It is one of seven lighthouses still standing on the Hudson River.

"This new light is a first step toward our intended goal of full restoration of this historic lighthouse," Wray said. "The new light also signals a new era for the Village of Sleepy Hollow. This lighthouse is an incredible symbol. When people see it, they think of Sleepy Hollow."

County Executive Rob Astorino attended the dedication and said it was a beautiful location.

"This lighthouse is a special place," Astorino said. "This is the rebirth of the area."

The $1 billion Edge-on-Hudson project will feature 1,117 townhomes, condominiums and apartments, along with a 140-room hotel, 135,000 square feet of retail space and 35,000 square feet of office space and 24 acres of parks and gardens.

Site development is expected to begin in late 2015, with construction of the first residences as early as 2017.
