TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Assemblyman Thomas Abinanti (D-Greenburgh/Mount Pleasant) joined the New York State Allies for Public Education in calling for the New York State Board of Regents to be accountable for educational policies.

“Regents are public officials -- their views should be publicly known and they should be judged on their views,” said Abinanti in a release. "“Being a Regent is not an honorary position. It takes sensitivity to the needs of children and an understanding of competing educational policies to do what’s right for the children of the State of New York.”

NYS Allies for Public Education, a group of concerned parents and community leaders, recently asked Board of Regents members who are seeking re-appointment to publicly clarify their positions on Common Core, high stakes testing, and the uploading of student information to the inBloom cloud, according to the release.

“Just because they’ve been there, doesn’t qualify them to stay there,” said Abinanti in the release.
