Faltz,  a Larchmont resident, will continue his work at Phelps, including service as clinical professor with the college's Phelps Family Medicine Residency Program, which he was instrumental in founding.

"I have known Dr. Larry Faltz since we were classmates in the early 1960s at the Bronx High School of Science," professor and chairman of the department of medicine at New York Medical College William Frishman said in a statement. "He is a great clinician, teacher, academic leader and researcher who is a credit to our medical school and our profession."

Before he came to Phelps in 1994, Faltz was a program director and chairman of medicine at New York Hospital Queens. He also served as clinical associate professor of medicine at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and had various other positions at the New York University School of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College and Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

At Phelps, Faltz also has the position of chairman of a multi-hospital advisory council that provides guidance to the Patient Safety Institute of Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association.

"It is a privilege to be chosen for this position at New York Medical College," Faltz said of the appointment. "I have a passion for teaching and believe that teaching makes doctors better at their craft."
