Arnaldo Marcano, age 42, of Bellport, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, June 7.

It followed his guilty plea to second-degree burglary in May 2023.

The district attorney’s office said it was shortly after midnight on Feb. 24, 2023 when Marcano broke a window and entered a Bellport home, where he stole cash before fleeing on foot.

At the time of the break-in, he was out on parole after serving 17 years in prison following convictions on seven counts of burglary, all violent felonies, in Suffolk County.

In 2000, Marcano was convicted of third-degree attempted burglary and served nine months in jail.

“Recidivist offenders such as this defendant pose a serious risk to the safety of our communities,” Suffolk County DA Raymond Tierney said in a statement.

“Everyone deserves a second chance, but I will not allow the same individuals to continuously commit crimes in Suffolk County and just get a slap on the wrist.

"We will hold you accountable, and seek substantial prison sentences.”

In addition to his time behind bars, Marcano must complete five years of post-release supervision.
