Officers with the Nassau County Police Department arrested Jennifer Steele-Taylor, 36, of Baldwin, and Jennifer Dadd, 37, of Hempstead, on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Police say the suspects were observed taking items off the shelves at Ebony Beauty Supply in Freeport (171 W. Merrick Road) on Sunday, Oct. 13 around 3:15 p.m.

The suspects were seen by the owner, who allegedly recognized Steele-Taylor based on a previous shoplifting incident.

Police say the suspects attempted to leave the store without paying for the items, prompting the owner to confront Steele-Taylor and ask to see her bag.

Steele-Taylor then became enraged and punched the victim in the face before fleeing the store with Dadd, according to police.

As the suspects were leaving, the victim observed Dadd reach into Steele-Taylor’s bag and throw stolen merchandise on the floor, police say.

Steele-Taylor and Dadd were charged with two counts of second-degree robbery, second-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief and are scheduled to appear in court.
