Freeport Police officers were dispatched to a stretch of South Bay Avenue shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, where there was a report of a man who had suffered a gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, police found Long Beach resident James Diamond in the area with a gunshot wound, and he was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Nassau County Police said.

The investigation into the fatal shooting led detectives to identify three men - Freeport residents Corey Grier, age 27, Eric Baldwin, age 25, and Middle Island resident Todd Brant, age 20 - as suspects, who were arrested in Nassau County on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Each of the three men was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery. Grier and Baldwin were also charged with two counts each of criminal possession of a weapon.

All three men were held and scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday, Nov. 4.
