Two teenagers in a stolen vehicle were caught after attempting to break into a home on Long Island, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call for a burglary in progress in North New Hyde at 12:50 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, Nassau County Police said.

Upon arrival, officers were met by homeowners who stated they had received a motion alert on their video camera and observed two people walking up their driveway.

The homeowner went outside and saw a subject attempting to open a house window, according to police.

The homeowner screamed at the subjects who fled the scene in a green Jeep Cherokee.

While canvassing for the vehicle, officers observed it traveling westbound on Jericho Turnpike and attempted to stop the vehicle, said police.

The two men refused to stop and eventually fled on foot from the vehicle on the Cross Island Parkway service road in the vicinity of 91st Street, said police.

With the assistance of the Nassau County K-9 Unit, officers conducted a search of the area and located the two teens and placed them into custody without incident. No injuries were reported. The vehicle the defendants were driving was a stolen vehicle.

The suspects, Takyler Jackson, 18, of Long Island City, and a 16-year-old boy whose name is not being released due to being a minor, were both charged with attempted burglary, grand larceny and petit larceny.

They will both be arraigned on Monday, Sept. 16.
