Suspect Nabbed In Church Parking Lot After Smithtown Prescription Center Robbery, Police Say

A man is behind bars after police say he robbed a pharmacy in Smithtown.

John Giunta entered the Smithtown Prescription Center, located at 260 East Main St, at approximately 9:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, approached a pharmacist and demanded narcotics, Suffolk County Police said. The pharmacist complied and Giunta fled with the proceeds, according to police.

Police responded and arrested Giunta in the rear parking lot of the United Methodist Church, located at 230 East Main St. a short time later. Major Case Unit detectives charged Giunta with third-degree robbery.

Giunta, 29, of 81 Richmond Blvd., Ronkonkoma, is being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday, June 20.
