Suffolk Woman Arrested After Child Left Home Alone Allegedly Starts Two Fires

A woman was arrested after a 7-year-old left home alone on Long Island allegedly started two fires.

Nora Soto-Cordova, 32, of Northampton in Suffolk County, was arrested at 10:45 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, after Southampton Police responded to a residence in Northampton for a house fire, said Southampton Police Lt. Susan Ralph.

Officers spoke to a resident who found a fire had been started in his bedroom and another in the kitchen area, Ralph said.

 Riverhead Fire Department responded, however, the fire had been extinguished.

Southampton detectives and the Southampton Town Fire Marshall responded to the home to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.

It was found that a 7-year-old child was left alone at the residence and had started the two fires, Ralph said.

Soto-Cordova was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Child Protective Services have been notified.
