A Suffolk County man is facing serious charges for allegedly driving drunk with his 8-year-old daughter and wife in the car in Hewlett, police said.
Amityville resident Jose Pleitez, 41, was stopped by Nassau County Police officers at approximately 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25 when he was spotted repeatedly swerving out of his lane.
At the time of the subsequent traffic stop, Pleitez was driving eastbound on Peninsula toward Hill Road with his daughter in the backseat at the time of the alleged impaired driving incident.
Police said that upon approaching the vehicle, the officer smelled a “strong odor of alcohol on (his breath) and he had glassy eyes and slurred speech. At that point, Pleitez was placed under arrest and taken into custody.
The 8-year-old daughter was turned over to her mother, who was also in the car at the time of the arrest.
Pleitez was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law for having a minor under the age of 16 in the car. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at First District Court in Hempstead.
