Long Island Teen Attempted To Hide Gun From Officers, Police Say

A 19-year-old is facing charges after police say he attempted to conceal a handgun from officers on patrol overnight in Hempstead.

The incident happened at around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, July 21.

While out conducting an investigation for an unrelated incident, Nassau County Police Third Precinct detectives saw a group of people standing behind a vehicle on Stewart Avenue, according to police.

As the detectives approached, they observed Latrell Ofurhie, of Rockville Centre, attempting to hide a black handgun and was placed under arrest.

Ofurhie was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday.
