Suffolk County resident Tara Rios, 47, of Greenport, was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 25, by the New York State Police and the FBI Terrorism Task Force, and charged with harassment as a hate crime, said the New York State Police.
A criminal complaint filed by the state police said that Rios allegedly threw a package of pork chops on Thursday, Jan. 9, onto the front steps of the Congregation Anshe Emeth, in Hudson, New York, causing pork fluids to be spilled on the steps.
She allegedly returned and took photos of the scene.
The complaint said the actions caused the congregation to fear for their safety.
Rios was arraigned before the town of Livingston Court and released on her own recognizance with an order of protection issued in favor of the victims.
She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Jan. 27.
The investigation remains ongoing.
