Police officers used a new tool to help extinguish a fire that broke out in a Long Island home.

The fire occurred just after 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1.

According to Nassau County Police, units responded to a residence in Seaford on Rutherford Drive for a house fire.

Upon arrival, they noticed smoke coming out of the windows. Police officers used their newly equipped “Dynamic Entry Breaching Sledge” (pictured above) which is assigned to all patrol vehicles to enter the house.

After a thorough search of the residence, it was found to be unoccupied.

North Massapequa and Wantagh Fire Departments responded to the scene to extinguish the fire.

A police officer was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
