Pair Of Teens In Stolen Car Caught After Fleeing Scene Of Nassau County Crash

A pair of teenage boys in a stolen car are facing grand larceny charges after being apprehended in Franklin Square after fleeing the scene of a crash in Oceanside, Nassau County Police said.

The two suspects were located in the parking lot at TD Bank at 720 Franklin Ave. in Franklin Square.

It happened at around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23.

According to detectives, defendant Eros Almonte, 17, of Baldwin was operating a stolen 2013 Dodge Avenger with a 16-year-old boy in the passenger seat when they were involved in a crash with another vehicle that occurred in front of 3149 Lawson Boulevard in Oceanside, Nassau County Police said. No injuries were reported.

The two fled the scene in the vehicle and a short time later were located by Lynbrook and Nassau County police officers in the parking lot of TD Bank, located at 720 Franklin Ave., Franklin Square. The 16-year-old was found at the scene and Almonte fled on foot but was located a short time later by police.

Almonte has been charged with reckless endangerment, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle and multiple traffic infractions. He will be arraigned on Saturday, Aug. 24 at First District Court, Hempstead.

The 16-year-old has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was issued an Appearance Ticket for Nassau County Family Court.
