It happened on Tuesday, April 7 at around 8:21 p.m. in Mastic.

Kristen Conrad, 31, of Manorville, was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty southbound on Mastic Road, when the vehicle made a left turn onto Eleanor Avenue in the path of two northbound motorcycles, Suffolk County Police said.

The motorcycles were operated by Bernard Lafayette, 31, of Mastic, in front and Walter Mason, 35, of Mastic, behind.

The motorcycle operated by Lafayette crashed into the Jeep, according to police.

Mason attempted to stop, and fell off the motorcycle before it crashed into the other motorcycle, police said.

The unoccupied motorcycles caught fire and became fully engulfed.

Lafayette was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.

Mason was transported to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Conrad and a passenger in the Jeep were not injured.

The Jeep and motorcycles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing.
