Mother In Custody After 2-Year-Old Twin Daughters Die After Being Found Inside Car In Montauk

The 24-year-old mother of 2-year-old twin daughters who died after being found in cardiac arrest inside a minivan in Montauk has been charged with murder,

Police say they received a 911 call at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, June 27 from a woman who told the operator her daughter, Tenia Campbell, was threatening to kill herself and her infant daughters.

Suffolk County Police Department, assisted by the New York State Police, Suffolk County Park Rangers, Southampton Town Police and the East Hampton Town Police conducted a massive countywide search for her.from Medford to Montauk.

East Hampton Town Police officers located Campbell at the entrance of the Montauk County Park Third House Nature Center, located at 1929 Montauk Highway, at approximately 4:05 p.m.

The officers took Campbell into custody and attempted life-saving efforts on her two children. The children, Jasmine and Jaida Campbell, were taken by Montauk Ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner will perform autopsies.

Campbell, 24, of Long Island Avenue in Medford, was transported to East Hampton Town Police Headquarters and charged by Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives with two counts of second-degree murder. She was held overnight at the East Hampton Town Police Headquarters and will be arraigned at East Hampton Town Justice Court on Friday, June 28.
