Man Threatens Officer With Assault Rifle on Long Island, Police Say

A Long Island man is accused of threatening to harm a police officer with an assault rifle, authorities said.

Police arrested Oceanside resident Donald Schreiner Thursday, March 30, following a phone call in which he allegedly threatened to use his assault rifle to harm a Nassau County Police officer.

A Nassau County Police sergeant phoned Donald Schreiner, aged 34, of Oceanside, at 8:35 p.m. on Thursday, March 30 to follow up on a complaint Schreiner had submitted, according to police.

Over the phone, Schreiner allegedly threatened to harm the officer with an assault rifle he owned. Officers then responded to Schreiner’s home and arrested him without incident.

His rifle was confiscated and there were no reported injuries.

Schreiner is charged with:

Criminal Possession of a Firearm,
Third-Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and
Second-Degree Aggravated Harassment.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead on Friday, March 31.
