Man Rescued After Sailboat Hit By Large Wave Overturns In Jones Inlet

A man was rescued after awaiting help on top of a sailboat that overturned when it was hit by a powerful wave.

It happened around 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 in the Jones Inlet off Freeport.

Upon arrival by Nassau County Police Marine 6 officers, it was determined the boat had been hit by a large wave and the operator, a 45-year-old man, was thrown into the water. 

The victim was able to climb on the overturned boat and await police arrival. The victim was transported back to shore on Marine 6 and with the assistance of Marine 2 were able to tow the sailboat back to shore as well. 

No injuries were reported.
