Man Killed In Crash That Caused Hours-Long LIE Closure In Suffolk

Details have been released on a fatal crash that caused the hours-long closure of a stretch of the Long Island Expressway.

It happened around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24 in Holtsville.

The driver was operating a 2018 Chevy westbound on the Long Island Expressway near exit 63, when he lost control and struck the median divider.

The victim was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he died from his injuries. 

His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

The westbound LIE lanes were closed through the evening commute during the accident investigation.
