Man Attacks Woman Walking On Long Island Trail, Police Say

A man who was acting erratically allegedly hit a woman walking along a Long Island trail, according to police.

Joshua Jones, age 32, of Farmingdale, was arrested around 5:10 p.m., on Wednesday, May 12, after the attack in North Massapequa, said the Nassau County Police.

Two women were walking at the State Preserve, located at the corner of Northwest Drive and Triangle Place North. when they noticed a man acting erratically, according to police.

The women decided to create distance from the man by walking in a different direction, moving away from him, said police. 

As they were walking away, Jones approached them from the rear and struck the victim with a closed fist in the back of the neck, police said. 

The victim was injured suffering pain and swelling, said police.

Shortly after, Jones was apprehended and placed into custody. 

He was transported to a local hospital for a mental evaluation and later charged with assault.

Jones is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, May 13 in Mineola.
