Long Island Woman Drove Drunk With 8-Year-Old In Backseat, Police Say

A Long Island woman was arrested for alleged DWI under Leandra's Law after officers found her passed out behind the wheel with a child in the vehicle

Cindy Arriola, age 30, of Lynbrook, was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 26 after Nassau County Police spotted her vehicle stopped on the side of a roadway around 2:12 a.m. in Lynbrook.

According to Nassau County Police, a Lynbrook Police officer spotted a 2018 Honda Accord stopped on the shoulder of Sunrise Highway at the intersection of Rocklyn Avenue.

The vehicle was up on the curb with the engine running. The officer approached the vehicle and saw Arriola, 30, who was unresponsive in the driver’s seat, with her 8-year-old daughter in the rear seat, police said.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the defendant emitted the odor of alcohol on her breath, had slurred speech, and glassy eyes, police said.

Arriola was charged with:

  • Aggravated DWI/Leandra's Law
  • Endangering the welfare of a child 
  • DWI

The child was released to a family member.

Arriola will be arraigned on Jan. 26, in Mineola.
