Long Island Drunk Driver With Son Aboard Crashes Into SUV At McDonald's Drive-Thru, Police Say

A Long Island man driving drunk with a child aboard crashed into another SUV at a McDonald's Drive-Thru, police said.

The crash happened on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 9:20 p.m. in Elmont, Nassau County Police said.

Manuel B. Asuncion, 46, of Elmont, was operating a 2006 Suzuki SUV when police say he struck the vehicle stopped in the McDonald’s Drive-Thru located at 1240 Elmont Road. 

Asuncion struck the rear of a Nissan Rogue with two occupants, a male, 48, and a female, 47. Officers responded to the accident. No injuries were reported.

A subsequent investigation was conducted and Asuncion was placed under arrest without incident. Asuncion’s 6-year-old child was in the vehicle. The child was released into the custody of his mother.

Asuncion was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated (Child under 16) under Leandra's Law, and endangering the welfare of a child. 

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, Nov.29 at First District Court in Hempstead.
