LI Crash Yields Two Arrests, One For DWI, One For Spitting In Officer's Face, Police Say

Two people were arrested following a single-vehicle crash on Long Island -- one for DWI and the other for spitting in a police officer's face during their arrest.

Stephanie Caicedo, 25, of Orient, and Jesus Mendoza, 21, of Greenport, were arrested around 12:29 a.m., Monday, Jan. 4, after Southold Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on route 25, in the area of Tuckers Lane, police said.

When officers arrived on the scene they found that vehicle involved in the crash had fled the scene but was located at a gas station on Main Bayview Road, police said.

After an investigation, the driver, Caicedo, was found to be intoxicated. She was arrested and charged with:

  • DWI
  • Driving without a license
  • Leaving the scene of an accident.

During the investigation, Mendoza, a passenger of the vehicle, interfered with the investigation numerous times and spit in the officer's face, police said.

Mendoza was placed under arrest and charged with obstructing governmental administration and harassment.

While being placed under arrest Mendoza resisted and had to be subdued by the officers. 

He was additionally charged with resisting arrest. 

Mendoza was released on an appearance ticket for a future court date.
