Thomas Alexio, 32, of Shirley was driving a vehicle rented from Ryder in Rochester on Friday, June 28, at 6:06 p.m. southbound on Cove Hollow Road, according to East Hampton Town Police.

He reportedly did not see the height signs of the Long Island Railroad bridge that runs over Cove Hollow Road 200 feet from Sag Harbor Turnpike, said police

Alexio then drove below the bridge, causing the roof of the truck to be nearly completely removed and extensive damage to the box portion of the van, according to the report.

He was the only occupant in the truck and was given a traffic ticket, said police.
