A 20-year-old area man who was killed and two teenage brothers who were critically injured in a single-vehicle crash have been identified by police.

William Smith, 20, of Mastic, was killed around 8:45 a.m., Friday, Sept. 13, while driving a 1996 Lexus eastbound on Pine Road when he lost control of the vehicle, which struck a tree and caught fire in front of 24 Pine Road, said the Suffolk County Police.

Responding Seventh Precinct Police Officer David Collins, with the assistance of a Good Samaritan, was able to pull brothers, 16-year-old Rasin Jackson, and 15-year-old Zameer Jackson, both of Mastic Beach, from the vehicle, police said.

The brothers were airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where they are listed in critical condition.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Officer Collins was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
