ID Released For Man Killed In Wrong-Way Wantagh Parkway Crash

The identity has been released of a person killed in a wrong-way crash on Long Island as well as for a man who was hospitalized.

The crash happened on the Wantagh State Parkway just south of the Southern State Parkway in Wantagh.

The crash happened on the Wantagh State Parkway just south of the Southern State Parkway in Wantagh at around 5:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug.13.

Alexander Simek, 73, of Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet northbound in the southbound lanes when he struck a 2014 Honda, state police said.

The Honda was driven by Jay Lasker, 54, of North Bellmore, according to police. 

Simek succumbed to his injuries at the scene, said police. 

Lasker was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for non-life-threatening lower-body injuries, police said.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation and the State Police is asking for anyone with information to call 631-756-3300.
