A suspect was tracked down by officers shortly after a Long Island woman reported being confronted by a burglar, police said.

It happened on Tuesday, March 3 at 10:10 a.m. in Mineola.

The female victim was in her residence on Garfield Avenue when she heard a knock on her side door, according to Nassau County Police detectives.

As she approached her door she was confronted by an unknown man standing in her home, police said.

The woman called 911 and the suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

A description of the suspect was transmitted and responding officers located him a short distance away.

The man, identified as 37-year-old Gordon Markais, of Austell, Georgia, was placed into custody.

Markais has been charged with second-degree burglary and possession of burglar tools and trespass.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday, March 4 at First District Court in Hempstead.
