The incident happened in Wantagh at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Officers responded to multiple reports of a possible drunk driver at Campbell Road and Martin Drive in Wantagh and then saw a 2011 Nissan Sentra involved in a crash in the northbound lanes of Wantagh Avenue, police said.

The driver, identified as Colin Cassidy, of Wantagh, was holding an aerosol can of Dust Off to his nose, and then he briefly passed out, police said.

Police attempted to remove Cassidy from the vehicle, but he shifted the car into reverse and started colliding with other vehicles, NCPD said.

Officers breached one of the car's windows and arrested Cassidy, police said.

Police said three cans of aerosol were recovered from the vehicle.

NCPD said Cassidy was charged with:

  • Three counts of leaving the scene of an incident
  • Reckless driving
  • Second-degree reckless endangerment
  • Multiple VTL infractions

He is set to be arraigned on Wednesday, June 15, police said.
