Suffolk County Police officers arrested Marquis Devonne Hawkins, 22, for allegedly stealing a bicycle from a residence in Babylon late on Thursday, July 11, and then attempting to re-sell it on the Letgo app.

Investigators received a complaint from a victim who found his gold BMX Volume bicycle being sold for $80 on the app. In response, First Precinct Crime Section officers conducted an undercover sting operation and arranged to meet Hawkins outside a Franklin Avenue residence in Deer Park.

After the purchase was complete, police said that officers discovered that the bike was the one reported stolen from the Babylon home the day before.

Hawkins was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. He also had an active warrant for domestic aggravated harassment. He will be held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday, July 13.
