Third Precinct officers responded to a 911 report of a man shot on Irving Street at approximately 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.

When officers arrived, they found 31-year-old Daniel Davis in the driveway of the residence with a gunshot wound to his neck, police said.

Davis, of Mastic, was transported via Central Islip-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in critical but stable condition.

Following an investigation, detectives determined Davis was shot by his half-brother, Eugene Sherrod, during a verbal dispute in front of Sherrod’s residence, according to police.

Sherrod then fled the scene in a Hyundai Santa Fe, said police. Highway Patrol officers located the Hyundai on Express Drive North in Medford and arrested Sherrod just before 1 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Detectives charged Sherrod with first-degree assault. He was held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Wednesday.
