Armed Robberies Involving Pickup Truck Reported Hours Apart In Suffolk

Detectives are investigating two armed robberies that took place within miles of each other on Long Island.

Police are investigating two armed robberies that took place minutes apart including one in the parking lot of Jake's 58.

The first robbery took place around 11:05 p.m., Monday, Feb. 17, in the parking lot at Jake's 58 Hotel & Casino in Islandia, said Suffolk County Police.

During the robbery, police said a man approached a woman in the parking lot, displayed what appeared to be a handgun, and demanded cash.

The woman complied and the man fled to a black pickup truck parked nearby. The pickup truck, driven by a second person, fled the scene in an unknown direction. There were no injuries.

The second robbery took place around 11:55 p.m. at the BP Gas Station on Route 25A, in Rocky Point, police said.

During the second incident, a man driving a pickup truck drove to a full-service gas pump and displayed what appeared to be a handgun and demanded cash from the attendant at the pump, detectives said.

 The attendant complied and the man fled the scene in the pickup truck. 

There were no injuries. The pickup truck was found abandoned a short time later in Medford. 

The investigation is continuing.
