30-Year-Old Seriously Injured As Car Crashes Into Woods After Rolling Over On LIE

A man is facing serious injuries after his involvement in a crash on the Long Island Expressway, police say.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are currently investigating the crash that caused serious injuries to a man in Hauppauge on Monday, June 24 around 12:30 a.m.

Police say Hugo A. Chavez, of Huntington Station, was driving a 2007 Honda sedan westbound on the Long Island Expressway when he lost control of the vehicle between exits 55 and 56. The vehicle rolled over multiple times, ejected Chavez into the right lane of the highway and crashed into the woods, according to police.

Two bystanders pulled Chavez out of the road. The Honda’s front-seat passenger, identified as Melqui Misael Chevez Rivas, 22, of Huntington Station, remained in the vehicle until it came to rest.

Chavez was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his serious injuries. According to police, Chevez Rivas was transported by Hauppauge Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, and this investigation is ongoing. Police urge anyone with information about this crash to contact the Fourth Squad at (631) 854-8452.
