14-Year-Old Airlifted After Being Struck By Car On Long Island

A 14-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital after he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle on Long Island.

The crash happened at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, in Valley Stream, the Nassau County Police Department reported.

A 2013 Honda Accord that was traveling north on Mill Road struck the boy while he was attempting to cross from the west side to the east side of Mill Road at Roosevelt Avenue, police said.

The Honda then struck a 2015 Honda Accord that was traveling south on Mill Road and continued driving north, police said.

The 14-year-old suffered multiple injuries, and he was taken by Nassau County Police Helicopter to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, police said.

Authorities said 24-year-old Shakyai Brownlow, of Valley Stream, was arrested after an investigation.

Brownlow was charged with: 

  • Second-degree assault 
  • Leaving the scene of an incident
  • Third-degree criminal mischief 
  • Second-degree reckless endangerment 
  • Reckless driving

His arraignment was scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 4, police said.
